Respiratory Protection for Bearded Workers

In the past few years, the popularity of the beard and facial hair in general has skyrocketed, leading to what some are terming ‘the beard boom’.  While the bushy look may be in fashion, it does pose an issue for employers who provide PPE to their workers, specifically in the instance of respiratory protection.

Traditionally, respiratory masks require a clean facial surface to create an effective seal.  When beards or sideburns are added to the situation, it is impossible to create such a seal, making such masks ineffective.

Luckily, there are some products which can provide excellent protection from harmful substances in the surrounding air for bearded workers.  Here are a couple that we like to recommend:

T2 Full Hood for Tornado System   H21-002tornado 002 2

Full PU coated nylon hood with acetate visor, designed for use with the Tornado system. Use with belt (H21-HCWB) and power unit (H21-015), purchased separately.

T3 Polycarbonate Visor for Tornado System   H21-003tornado 002

Polycarbonate visor, complete with faceseal in PU coated nylon. To fit Tornado range of powered respirators.

T5 Smooth Action Flip Up Visor with Protector Tuffmaster II Safety Helmet   H21-005H21-005

Compact, low profile PPE combination, utilises proven Protector Tuffmaster   II safety helmet with ratchet   head size adjustment, and optional Protector ear defenders. Smooth action flip up visor in   Polycarbonate or Acetate. Broad face seal for comfortable,   efficient fit.
